Heat Pump Repair

HVAC pump units outdoor
Heat pumps are one of the most commonly requested systems in our region for heating and cooling needs.  As part of a system that can both heat and cool your home, its no wonder this technology is such a popular option. There are numerous benefits including their quiet energy efficiency that make them a smart choice for most homes in our area.  But as with any product, there can be issues that call for a need for heat pump repair.  Our highly trained contractors are here to help our clients address any issues their heat pumps may be experiencing.

How It Works
Heat pumps work as both a heating and cooling system for your home.  The mechanisms pump humid air through your home or business to either warm it or cool it, through the addition or removal of heat.  It works as kind of reverse air conditioning, also using humid air to control the climate.  They contain indoor air handlers that work in conjunction with a blower to circulate conditioned air throughout the space.  Sources include both outside air and geothermal sources.  These types of units are most effective for environments in which the temperatures don’t go below freezing .

Benefits
There are many benefits to installing a heat pump which is why it’s such a popular option.  As they work as both a heating and cooling system, it removes the need for installing two separate systems in your home or business.  And because they don’t create any heat, just circulate it from naturally occurring sources, they’re an energy efficient system - which is great for long term costs.  While older models were known for being noisy, newer models have addressed those issues and are no longer a problem. They’re also easy to install, and can also work as an air conditioner during the summer.

Problems
Despite having numerous benefits that make them a popular option, as with any other product there are also some common problems.  When the wrong size heat pump has been installed, this creates inefficiencies in temperature control, that lead to unnecessary wear and tear.  In this case our technicians will do everything they can to alleviate the issues, but sometimes a replacement might be necessary.  Additionally in the rare case temperatures in St. Charles drop below zero degrees, effectiveness may diminish as there is a lack of warm air to cycle.  This can be addressed with the addition of a back up burner, although this addendum may lead to increased utility costs.
